Naxos Top 5 Monuments
Portara. The island of Palaces and Portara are undoubtedly the majestic symbols of Naxos. The Portara is built on the island of Palaces, or Bacchus Island as it is also known. It located at the left of the port of Naxos.

Yria: The sanctuary of Dionysus is in the area of Yria. The historians consider it the forerunner of the Parthenon. It is only a few Minutes away from the village of Agios Arsenios and about 10 km from the city.

Kouros and Kori Melanon: These two monuments are exctremely characteristic of not only the Naxian culture, but of the Greek culture as well. They are located in Flerio, after the village of mills and before the village Kinidaros, located about 9 miles from the Town-port.

The temple of Demeter, or otherwise known as the sanctuary of Giroula.The archaeological site is located in the village of Sangri, at the center of the island.

Kouros of Apollona or the Kouros of Apollo is a known reference of the island. The impressive marble statue is estimated to have been created in the 6th Century BC. Its length exceeds 10 m. It is at the entrance of the ancient quarry of the region and impresses visitors with its volume. It is 50km northeast of the town-port.

Naxos top 5 Villages
Apiranthos: Located 32km southwest of the Port. The village is known for its traditional architecture, espacialy of the stone houses, and for the well-preserved churches and the four museums.

Filoti: located 18.3km east of the town of Naxos. It is the largest village on the island. It has a rich history, many important monuments and the surrounding area is ideal for those who love hiking, as there are many hiking trails.

Apollonas: located 54km northeast of the town of Naxos. The picturesque harbor, the Statue of Kouros and the village beach is a reason for an excursion in the north of Naxos.

Halki: located 15km east of the town of Naxos. The impressive houses, imposing towers and Byzantine churches are the remaining elements reminding us of the once powerful and glorious era this village lived through. Halki, also known as Tragaia, used to be the captial of the island in those days.

Koronos: located 30km northeast of Naxos Town and has been described by National Geographic as one of the prettiest villages in the Cyclades.

- Lagoon of Glyfada, a brackish wetland, chosen by many birds during their migratory journey. It is south of us (2,3km – 5min).

- Cedar forest Aliko: The forest covers an area of 800 acres and is one of the eight largest forests in Greece. The trees have an average age of 200-300 years. It is south of us (4,5 Km – 9min).

- Temple of Demeter in Giroula (Sangri) was built out of white marble between 530 and 520. It is located on a hill, overlooking an agricultural valley, and from it you can see all the way to the sea and to the mountain of Zas. In the 6th century the ancient shrine stood as a Christian basilica. It is east of us (8,2 km – 18min).

- Bazeos Tower: Built in the 17th century as a monastery of the Holy Cross, it was dedicated to Christ. It is one of the most characteristic samples of post-Byzantine architecture. The monastery functioned until the 19th century. In the nearby surroundings you will find the most important cultural events during the summer. The paths of Naxos, from ancient times until the end of the 60s, were the main system of movement of residents from one village to another and from their settlements to their farms.
